The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) has voted to award accreditation to the Master of Science in athletic training program at Texas A&M University.

The purpose of CAATE is to develop, maintain and promote education standards of quality athletic training programs. This accreditation award will allow athletic training students at Texas A&M to sit for the board of certification examination when they graduate. This will begin with the first class of 2013 students.

When alerted of the award, Dr. Lori Greenwood, director of the athletic training program, credited others involved in achieving this goal.

“I would like to thank everyone who participated in this process including administrators, support staff, faculty, physicians and most importantly students,” Greenwood says. “I would especially like to thank our class of 2013 students for taking the initial leap of faith."

CAATE is sponsored by The American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Official notification from CAATE will happen in the coming weeks.
