CEHD To Honor Outstanding Alumni

Five alumni of the college will be recognized for their professional achievements and college-wide impact at the 2017 Outstanding Alumni Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on Friday, October 27 at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. 
 
Each year, various stakeholders throughout the college nominate honorees. This year’s recipients are Dr. Donald Albrecht, Gayle Bellomy, Dr. Steven Furney, Dr. Brandon Macias, and Dr. Henry Ostermann. 
 

Dr. Donald Albrecht

Dr. Donald Albrecht ’77 received three degrees at Texas A&M including his doctorate in Educational Administration. As a student, he served as the assistant director of student activities (1977-1983), director of student activities (1983-1985), directed Fish Camp, and was the advisor to a number of student groups including Yell Leaders. Today, he is the Vice President for Student Engagement and Success at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. At the University he serves as a member of the President’s cabinet, committee chair for the Financial Literacy Committee; Inclusive Excellence Committee; Expressive Activities Committee; Who’s Who selection Committee; Student Endowment Scholarship Committee; and Student Engagement & Success Council.
 

Gayle Bellomy

Gayle Bellomy ‘74 is a seasoned educator with over 30 years of experience. Bellomy has worked at many school districts — serving as a teacher, diagnostician, and principal.  She is professionally affiliated with the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education, the Association of Texas Professional Educators, and the Retired Teachers State of Texas Association. Bellomy has received numerous honors and certifications throughout her extensive career.
 

Dr. Steven Furney

Dr. Steven Furney ‘75 holds a decorated academic career in the field of health and science. Dr. Furney also received degrees from the University of Houston, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Texas’ School of Public Health. He has served as a faculty member at Texas State University for over 30 years. He has received three university awards for excellence in teaching and contributed significantly to the field of health education. 
 

Dr. Brandon Macias

Dr. Brandon Macias ‘12 is a graduate from the Department of Health and Kinesiology. He also is a graduate of University of California - Berkeley in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. Contributing greatly as a technician and study coordinator, Dr. Macias spent many years in the laboratory at UC-San Diego, which lead to his peer-reviewed publications. He works as a principal investigator for Nasa’s Visionary Laboratory at Johnson Space Center Houston. He has completed years of professional development and service through a number of programs at Texas A&M including Research Week, Space Life Science Educational Outreach, and served as a Mission X hometown volunteer.
 

Dr. Henry Ostermann

Dr. Henry Osterman ‘72 received three degrees at Texas A&M and a degree at the U.S. Army War College. Dr. Ostermann is a lecturer in Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M and is also a professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and in the Department of Allied Health Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. His honors and awards include notable graduate from the College of Education at Texas A&M University, Legion of Honor, Chapel of the Four Chaplains (2010), Man of the Year, 75th Infantry Division Association (2015), and many more. He has been President and Chief Executive Office of the HJO Enterprises, in LLC Spring Texas (2009), Army Reserve Ambassador, of the U.S. Army Reserve Command in Washington D.C. (2010) and has achieved many other high honoring roles throughout his lifetime.
 
This year’s recipients will be honored at the Outstanding Alumni Gala on October 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. More details can be found on the event page.
