Dr. Victor Willson, head of Educational Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, has been named the inaugural holder of the newly established Douglas J. Palmer Endowed Chair in Educational Psychology.

“It is a great honor to be the inaugural owner of the chair and it recognizes Dean Palmer’s legacy as an outstanding educational leader in the university,” said Willson. “It really indicates the high-esteem with which the dean has been held by the development council and the donors who contributed to it,” he added.

Dr. Willson was selected as chair for his achievements in research and administration. He has been with Texas A&M University for more than 35 years, served as EPSY interim head and has held the position of professor and department head since 2008. Over the last 40 years, his research has encompassed work on science education, quantitative methods, reading development and children’s intellectual development. He has published more than 200 articles, book chapters and books.

“I believe the chair will allow us to attract more high-level national and international faculty to the program, help support graduate students or a laboratory and expand our research program and impact,” noted Willson.
