The College of Education and Human Development has raised $30 million, which is 92 percent of a $33 million goal set for the college in the Texas A&M University Lead by Example campaign.

Support raised through the campaign will provide the college with the opportunity to expand multidisciplinary educational and research programs. The impact areas focus on increasing the number of highly trained, certified teachers, creating transformational learning experiences and disseminating research data for real world applications.

Out of the $30 million raised, current gifts account for approximately $7.8 million, private grants for research accounts for $8.6 million and planned gifts account for $13.7 million. Planned gifts may include bequests, IRA designations, life insurance policies, unitrusts, gift annuities and other dual benefit gifts during and after the donors’ lifetimes.

Areas of impact

Increasing the number of highly trained, certified teachers is an impact area that aims to alleviate student loan debt through undergraduate scholarships and the Dean’s Education Scholars Program. Undergraduate scholarships will be available to students in all CEHD departments. The Dean’s program will provide financial, educational and emotional support to gifted students from low-income families that are seeking teacher certification at Texas A&M University.

Creating Transformational Learning Experiences encompasses the Undergraduate Research Fund and Global Study Scholarships. This area of impact intends to influence student’s worldview and challenge their academic journey. Undergraduate students will gain valuable research experience and global education opportunities through programs.

The largest impact area is Disseminating Research Data, with seven innovative centers and programs requiring funding to expand research opportunities for faculty and students. Programs include Telehealth Counseling Clinic and the TAMU Coaching Academy. The centers within this impact area include the Center for Translational Research on Aging and Longevity, the Center for Urban School Partnerships, the STEM Teaching and Learning Innovation Center, the Center on Disability and Development and the Sydney and J.L. Huffines Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance.
