Mark Johnson Wins an AwardThe department's Kinesiology Diversification Seminar Series was proud to welcome former Texas A&M baseball coach Mark Johnson back to campus.

Johnson is a Hall of Fame college baseball coach who led the Texas A&M University team from 1985 to 2005 and Sam Houston State University from 2007 to 2011. His teams at Texas A&M made it to the NCAA playoffs 13 times, with two appearances in the College World Series. His teams also won the Big 12 conference regular season title twice (1998 and 1999) and won the Southwest Conference championship three times (1986, 1989, 1993).

Under Johnson’s leadership, the Sam Houston State Bearkats were crowned Southland Conference champions three times (2007, 2008, 2009) with regional appearances all three of those years.

He is currently the chairman of the board of the directors for the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). In 2012, Johnson was inducted into the Texas A&M Letterman’s Hall of Fame. He was also the 2012 recipient of the ABCA Lefty Gomez Award in 2012 and the 2009 ABCA Ethics in Coaching Award.
