Zhang Named Director of Center for Disability and Development

The Texas A&M Center on Disability and Development (CDD), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), recently selected Dr. Dan (Dalun) Zhang to serve as the new Director.

Dr. Victor Willson, head of the Department of Educational Psychology, said, “Dr. Zhang is a national leader in the area of self-determination and transition services to children and young adults with disabilities. He has a distinguished record of scholarship and external funding and will continue the development of the Center as a national resource in the areas the Center serves. The department is extremely pleased with this appointment.”

Dr. Zhang has dedicated his career to research, service and doctoral instruction with a desire to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities. He has honed a great passion for UCEDD’s and has worked at three different centers as a full-time or part-time faculty. Dr. Zhang has also been actively involved with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Network, and is a graduate of the first UCEDD Leadership Institute in 2012.

Dr. Zhang’s primary research interest is on assisting youth with disabilities make a successful transition from high school to adulthood, with a focus on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Over the course of his career, Dr. Zhang has been able to secure over $12 million in internal and external funding for his research and demonstration projects and has served on a number of grant review panels for various federal agencies. Additionally, Dr. Zhang has published over 7- research papers in academic journals, presented at numerous regional, state, national and international conferences, and is currently on multiple editorial boards for several national and international journals.

Dr. Zhang will officially begin his service as CDD Director on July 1st, 2015 upon the retirement of the current director, Dr. Benz.
